a) Ni(CO)4 + I2 -> NiI2 + 4 CO

Cross Sensitivity
Iron pentacarbonyl is indicated with a brown discoloration and witha lower sensitivity than nickel tetracarbonyl.Hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide react with the iodine preparationand can suppress the nickel tetracarbonyl indication. TheInstructions for Use of this tube describe how the interference canbe quickly recognized.
Additional Information
After performing the required 20 pump strokes the reagent ampoulemust be broken and the liquid carefully drawn onto the indicationlayer using the pump.
